Transas ECDIS Chosen by Maersk Tankers Again

The IMO requirement has phased installation of ECDIS on board all ships, beginning July 2012. Maersk Tankers, one of the world’s largest product tanker companies, has selected Transas to address this by implementing ECDIS compliance program across the Maersk Tankers’ fleet. The agreement includes ECDIS installations for both retrofit and for newbuilt vessels for Maersk Tankers.

According to the agreement signed between Group Procurement in Maersk and Transas Marine, the vessels will be upgraded to the latest version of the Transas Navi-Sailor ECDIS Multifunction Display in dual configuration with official charts folio for paperless operation.

Maersk Tankers owns and operates a large fleet of product tankers since 1928 in accordance to the highest standards for quality and reliability. Sharing the same credo, Transas will deliver the installations according to the Maersk’s highest demands.

The installations have already started and over the next months 68 Maersk Tankers’ retrofit vessels will be equipped with the Transas ECDIS with further installations onboard newbuildings being delivered to Maersk Tankers from 2016.
The prestigious order confirms the trust in the Transas ECDIS that Maersk have acquired over the years with more than 200 Dual ECDIS installations since the beginning of this millennium.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with such an esteemed client like Maersk. We believe that a solid concept for ECDIS implementation is the key success factor for a sustainable solution not only to meet IMO requirements, but also to improve the efficiency and safety of the Maersk Tankers fleet with our proven user friendly systems”, - comments Jens Pfeiffer, Transas Marine’s Navigation Business Division Director.
